It's no secret that Odd Future Wolf Gang Kill Them All have been heavily courted by the music industry's major players. Through its music and live performances, the rap collective has branded itself as unpredictable, wildly creative and independent, and now there's a deal in the works to help them stay that way. On Tuesday (April 26), manager Chris Clancy confirmed to MTV News that a record deal with RED Distribution/Sony is in the works.
"It's based on getting the distribution deal we've always envisioned that allows the group to 'sign themselves' to their own company and keep their masters," Clancy told Rap Radar of the impending deal. "They will have 100 percent creative control of all aspects of their music, art, and release schedule with no third party participation in outside business."
Though OFWGKTA were courted by head honchos like SRC's Steve Rifkind, the group puts their independence at a premium, according to Clancy. "Freedom and ownership was the whole point. Red and Sony know that it's in everyone's best interest to maintain the group's authenticity and control. They built it, they deserve it. There's no cheesy hooks or fluorescent liquor product placements in the works. ... It's about to be fun ... and different."
