Lady Gaga Ponders Motherhood With Oprah Winfrey
By Jocelyn Vena
<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/lady_gaga/artist.jhtml">Lady Gaga</a> has never come across a topic that she won't open up about. And in a new, candid interview with Oprah Winfrey on her show "<a href="http://www.oprah.com/own-oprahs-next-chapter/Sneak-Preview-Oprah-Interviews-Lady-Gaga-and-Her-Mother-Video" target="_blank">Oprah's Next Chapter</a>," Mother Monster chats about someday actually becoming a mother.
</P><P>
</P><P>"Yes, I want kids, I want a soccer team and I want a husband," she said in the special, which airs Sunday on Winfrey's OWN cable network. "Yeah, I do. Well, you know, I'm being superfluous. I don't want to have one kid. I want to have a few."

"I want to experience that," she said making a baby bump with her hands and laughing, "[but] not yet."
</P><P>
</P><P>Most of the special was filmed in Gaga's native New York City, but part was also filmed at Harvard University last month. The singer and the talk show host were on hand at the prestigious college to launch Gaga's <a href="/news/articles/1680176/lady-gaga-launches-born-this-way-foundation-harvard.jhtml"><i>Born This Way</i> Foundation</a>.
</P><P>
</P><P>"I just have one thing to say before we get started: We got Oprah! ... Thank you from all of us — from my entire team, from my mother, from the bottom of the hearts of so many people who believe in what we're doing today," Gaga said at the launch. She explained that the foundation seeks to empower the youth of America, adding, "How can we inspire young people to know they have the power to be brave?"</p>

'Titanic' Looks 'Spectacular' In 3-D, James Cameron Says
James Cameron and his wife at the "Titanic 3D" premiere
Photo: Getty Images
Nearly 15 years after "Titanic" became the biggest movie ever to grace the silver screen, director James Cameron has expanded his blockbuster into the third dimension.
On April 4, "Titanic" sets sail in 3-D after a painstaking conversion that Cameron believes enhances the picture's overall effect. MTV News spoke with the director in London, on the red carpet for the U.K. premiere of the re-release, which hits theaters days before the 100th anniversary of the ship's sinking.
"It's really a dream come true to get this film back into cinema because it just has a whole different effect on people when they take three hours out of their life to just sit and have the unbroken experience and let the story take them along," Cameron said. "It can be quite a profoundly emotional experience, and you're not going to get that watching it on video. The 3-D just enhances the whole thing. It takes it to a whole different level. "
Cameron decided to begin the process in 2005, while he was prepping his next ambitious project, "Avatar."
"I was pretty convinced at that time that 3-D was really going to transform the cinema experience. I wanted cinema owners, the exhibitors, to embrace the conversion to digital projection, so that there'd be a place to show 3-D movies," Cameron said. "I was thinking of 'Avatar,' but I was also saying, 'Look, we can do films like "Titanic." We can take "Jaws," "Star Wars," whatever your favorite movies are, we can convert them to 3-D and give them a whole new life.' So we started doing test to see what a conversion of 'Titanic' would look like. We did a minute and a half of it, and it looked spectacular. "
The 3-D re-release offered Cameron the opportunity to reflect on what made "Titanic" a worldwide sensation. Cameron said he feels that it didn't have everything to do with the movie's young star Leonardo DiCaprio.
"Women could relate to it, not just because of the Leo-mania thing, but because a lot of young women struggle with the sense of identity in societal expectation. The character of Rose was really written very much about those ideas," Cameron said. "I think it was a simplification after the fact that [DiCaprio] is why women were so attracted to the movie."

Kate Winslet Says Her Acting 'Could've Been Better' In 'Titanic'
Kate Winslet at the "Titanic 3D" premiere
Photo: Getty Images
Kate Winslet has had a rough journey with "Titanic" premieres in the past. She missed the 1997 world premiere at Mann's Chinese Theatre when her ex-boyfriend, Stephen Tredre, tragically died of cancer. During the U.K. premiere, she was in the hospital suffering from dysentery she contracted in Morocco while filming "Hideous Kinky."
But as "Titanic" sets sail again 15 years later in 3-D, Winslet finally made a long overdue red-carpet appearance at the London premiere on Tuesday. MTV News caught up with the Academy Award-winning actress to find out how it feels to see the movie again in a new dimension.
"It feels amazing," Winslet said. "I mean, it is a very strange experience because it's a long time since I've seen the film in its entirety."
In 1997, the retelling of the ship's disaster dominated the box office, raking in more than $600 million. The film stands strong as the second-highest-grossing box-office hit in the United States. But Winslet isn't worried about moviegoers and fans passing up the opportunity to see it in theaters again. While she says it looks different, she also believes it's much bigger, in a way. "It looks very different. I mean, it's still as wonderful and as epic as it always was. But it does feel bigger, you know, bigger somehow even than it did then, so it's very exciting," she said.
Having seen Rose again on the big screen, Winslet is critical of herself in the role, suggesting that there are things she would change if she could play the part all over again. "My American accent could've been much better. My acting could've been a lot better," she said. Her Oscar nomination for the role says otherwise.
And as far as seeing herself in 3-D, she's happier with the way she looks now. "I think I look nicer now," she said. "I prefer myself as a 36-year-old. It's really weird 'cause when you're 21 you think, 'Oh God, when I'm 36, oh God, that's nearly 40 and I'll look really old and wrinkly by then.' And actually I quite like the way I look. I feel OK about myself these days."
Audiences will be able to relive the story as the 3-D version of "Titanic" hits theaters on April 4.

Was Jennifer Lawrence Too 'Curvy' To Play Katniss In 'Hunger Games'?
Jennifer Lawrence in "The Hunger Games"
Photo: Lionsgate
Fans flooded in droves into movie theaters this weekend to see "The Hunger Games." In the wake of the highly anticipated release, much of the criticism surrounding the movie has been not about the young stars' performances, but their appearances.
Most recently there has been criticism of Jennifer Lawrence's weight, with some sighting that as Katniss, a girl who grew up in a famine-stricken district of a dystopian society, she should have been thinner.
New York Times film critic Manohla Dargis wrote, "A few years ago Ms. Lawrence might have looked hungry enough to play Katniss, but now, at 21, her seductive, womanly figure makes a bad fit for a dystopian fantasy about a people starved into submission."
The statement is receiving much backlash, considering Lawrence is now a certified movie star that countless young women look up to. Putting aside the negative body-image issues the comment suggests, one wonders whether Dargis is accurate in her assessment of the actress/character disparity? MTV News asked expert "Hunger Games" fans to weigh in. Most had the same message: They loved what Lawrence brought to her character and that the scrutiny is misguided.
"Katniss may not have been as thin or small in stature as depicted in the book, but it's not unfathomable that her hunting prowess would have allowed her to have some meat on her bones," TheHob.org's Gabby Vittoria responded. She went on to point out that "Peeta wasn't tall in the movie; Clove wasn't big and brawny; Katniss wasn't smaller than most of the Tributes. These physical changes certainly didn't take away from the story and messages in the movie. Besides, for me, Jennifer's acting and the quality of the film makes her weight a non-issue."
Many fans not only disagreed with the film critic but were affronted by these reviews of Lawrence. "I'm offended by this critique on so many levels, and honestly, I was shocked that it was ever an issue and that a professional critic would bring it up in the film's review," Sara Gundell from the Hunger Games Examiner fan site stated.
This backlash about Lawrence's weight comes in the wake of the questioning of Rue's race in the film. The pre-teen is played by Amandla Stenberg, who is African American. In recent days her casting was the subject of racially fueled criticism by a handful of moviegoers who have suffered their own backlash.
What do you think of the criticism of Jennifer Lawrence's weight? Sound off in the comments below!

'Glee'-Cap: Michael Jackson Invades McKinley High
By Jim Cantiello
<P>"Glee" paid tribute to Michael Jackson during Tuesday night's episode and, shockingly, kept the story moving along in the midst of several MJ-inspired musical numbers. Kurt, Rachel and Quinn all received great news about college, Rachel finally accepted Finn's proposal and evil Sebastian's plot to harm Kurt with a doctored slushee backfired when Blaine took the hit for his boyfriend.

</P><P>Yet the forced "all Michael, all the time" song selection led to some head-scratching scenes including Kurt, Rachel and Finn serenading an injured Blaine with Jackson's love song to a rat, "Ben," and two different music-video re-enactments only appealed to Jackson superfans. Curren$y Nabs Pharrell, 2 Chainz For The Stoned Immaculate

Throughout his career, Curren$y has kept his collaborations organic, bypassing flavor-of-the-month rap features. And on his upcoming Warner Bros. album The Stoned Immaculate, he will continue to do so, even if the names in the LP's credits get a little bigger.
When the NOLA MC drops his next album later this year, fans can look forward to beats from Pharrell, J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League, DJ Toomp and Virginia producer Bink, who famously crafted a number of tracks for Jay-Z's 2001 classic The Blueprint.
"This is a different look than anything I've usually done," Curren$y told MTV News. "Usually I work with one person, or try to keep it to just, like, two producers on a project."
On 2010's Pilot Talk and Pilot Talk 2, Curren$y worked mostly with Ski Beatz, and on his 2011 Weekend at Burnie's, he tapped Monsta Beatz to take the production helm. Now Curren$y is ready to branch out.
"Bink produced 'What It Look Like,' " Curren$y said in reference to The Stoned Immaculate's first single, featuring Wale. "Pharrell produced a joint for me. Daz did two joints and rapped on one of them for me.
"It's a mutual thing. I only work with people who I have a real conversation with and nothing is forced," he continued.
Curren$y's not only recruiting big-name producers for his next LP, he also hooked up with some pretty notable MCs. "I got 2 Chainz on my album," he revealed, noting that he was friends with the Atlanta star back when he used to go by his original rap name in the early 2000s. "Me and 2 Chainz been cool since it was me and Tity Boi was cool."
Now that Curren$y is the head of his own record company, Jet Life Recordings, he feels he has to use his relationships to his advantage. "It's not that I did different and reached out, I kinda cashed in on my friendships," he said. "I'm trying to get more attention towards my crew ... I have to draw more eyes and play ball to make it easier for everybody else."

Usher And Diplo Found 'Chemistry' On 'Climax'
Diplo performs in Madison, Wisconsin, on Tuesday
Photo: Evan Scott/MTV News
MADISON, Wisconsin — It was just four years ago that Diplo put his production prowess on full display with M.I.A.'s mega-hit "Paper Planes." Since then, the DJ/producer has become a go-to producer for major acts like Usher, whose latest single, R&B jam "Climax," features work from the Philadelphia native.
On Tuesday, MTV News hit up the first stop on the campus-themed AXE One Night Only Tour in Wisconsin, and we caught up with the headlining DJ to talk about his upcoming projects.
"We got really luck on that one," he said of the track from Usher's upcoming album. "We just had great chemistry. I was super-nervous working with him the first two days. ... The way we did it, it was just a super-open format. He was down to do whatever we were excited about.
"I love Usher," Diplo gushed. "I'm an Usher fan. I love him for records like 'Confessions Pt. II' and 'Burn,' those are some of the first R&B records from my generation that are still lasting forever. And we did some uptempo stuff too. I don't know what'll make the album, but I think there are definitely three songs that'll make it."
Diplo is currently involved with a number of projects and luckily he was willing to dish. After working last summer with No Doubt on their upcoming record, the producer revealed he had good news to share.
"We just finished. I was actually in Jamaica last month and I went in and did some extra stuff on that record," he told us. "I'm super-excited. It's probably going to be a single for their album. They've been [tweeting] about the song, so they're excited about it. I think it's going to be a 'No Doubt featuring Major Lazer' record, because we were producers, and there's another artist on it, too, that we recorded in Jamaica.
"But you'll have to wait," Diplo warned, "I don't know how far off that record is, but every song I've heard is a bona-fide hit. '
The superstar DJ also recently took to his Facebook page and casually mentioned that he's already started production on 18 tracks for a record with Snoop Dogg.
"Snoop Dogg is an icon, man; he's bigger than the music," Diplo said. "What we're doing is a reggae record. It's like Snoop Dogg and Major Lazer together. It's all reggae and he's singing and he's doing a f---ing awesome job and I never knew it, but he had his heart in every song. ... We're going to get back into the production of it next month, and I'm really proud of that record. It's the first record I've ever executive-produced and his crew is amazing.

Justin Bieber Takes A 'Leap' With 'Boyfriend'
By Jocelyn Vena
<P><a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/bieber_justin/artist.jhtml">Justin Bieber</a> dropped his <a href="/news/articles/1681748/justin-bieber-boyfriend.jhtml">bumping new single "Boyfriend"</a> on Monday (March 26), teasing his next album, <a href="/news/articles/1681595/justin-bieber-boyfriend.jhtml"><i>Believe.</i></a> It's a grinding, midtempo song that hears Bieber proclaiming all the ways he can make a girl happy (swag and fondue included!).
</P><P>
</P><P>Co-produced and co-written by "Cooler Than Me" singer Mike Posner, the song shows growth from Bieber's "Baby" days. When MTV News caught up with Posner last week, he told us what it was like to hit the studio with Bieber (and co-producer and co-writer Mason Levy) for the track.
</P><P>
</P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:752329/cp~vid%3D752329%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A752329" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed>
</P><P>
</P><P>"I've known [Bieber's manager] Scooter [Braun] for a few years, so I actually ran into Scooter at a Clippers game and told him I would love to work with Justin," Posner said. "I got the opportunity to write with Justin. I didn't really know what to expect at first, but he's an incredible, incredible writer and amazing vocalist.
</P><P>
</P><P>"Because I'm an artist myself, I can be pretty selective on who I produce for and who I make beats for ... and really what I'm looking for is an amazing vocalist, somebody that can sing better than I can," he continued. "And the other thing is somebody that's willing to not try to make something that succeeds within the matrix of what pop music is now, but makes something that moves that matrix to where it is, and Justin was willing to take that leap with me."
</P><P>
</P><P>Bieber spoke to Ryan Seacrest on his radio show hours after the song's world premiere Monday, explaining why this was the perfect track to kick off the <i>Believe</i> era.
</P><P>
</P><P>"It was a really hard choice. I mean, we had so many songs, so many uptempos we could release, [that] I thought, 'Let's slow it down,' " he said, adding that there are already plenty of fast songs all over the radio. "It's just something a little bit more mature, but it's also something I think I'm ready for."
</P><P>
</P><P>While fans and industry insiders had been wondering what a more grown-up Bieber would sound like, he said he tried to block out all the noise when making the track. "There's so many people that are going to give me opinions, but I'm the only one who can ultimately make those decisions, because I'm going to have to live with my career for the rest of my life. So I thought this was the perfect single," he said, adding that this song "was me all the way; it is a representation of me."
</P><P>
</P><P>And Bieber said "Boyfriend" perfectly sets up what's coming next. "It's kind of classic," he said of the album. "The songs, I feel, won't get old. The music is very fresh, but it's also — I'm taking a lot from old-school music, a lot of Michael Jackson, a lot of old R&B, a lot of old pop. It's pretty special."

Is Britney Spears Getting Closer To 'X Factor' Gig?
By Jocelyn Vena
<P>There are several women's names currently being tossed around as potential judges for the upcoming season of "X Factor." Avril Lavigne, <a href="/news/articles/1679730/x-factor-new-judges-hosts.jhtml">Janet Jackson and Britney Spears</a> are the leading rumored contenders to replace <a href="/news/articles/1678191/paula-abdul-exits-x-factor.jhtml">Nicole Scherzinger and Paula Abdul</a> for the show's completely revamped second season, which kicks off later this year.
</P><P>
</P><P>In a recent press call, Simon Cowell would not confirm who producers were talking to, but he did not deny that Jackson was on the table.
</P><P>
</P><P>"You can probably count on two girls," fellow judge L.A. Reid added. "That we can confirm."
</P><P>
</P><P>Cowell recently addressed the Britney buzz on Billy Bush's <a href="http://www.accesshollywood.com/billy-bush/simon-cowell-x-factor-would-be-a-walk-in-the-park-for-britney-spears_articletab_61327" target="_blank">radio show</a>, continuing to play coy about the chatter. "Well, I'm fascinated by her. The fact that she's still one of the most talked-about — not just pop stars, but people — in the world today means that you've got this star power. This girl's got resilience, and the fact that she's survived this and she's still hot, she's still having hit records and she's still controversial ... there's a reason for that.
</P><P>
</P><P>"I would think that if she's managed to sustain a family, a career, which is tough, this is a walk in the park," he added, noting that he believes she would be a good judge.
</P><P>
</P><P>While Cowell seems to be dancing around the issue, British "X Factor" judge Louis Walsh may have let the cat out of the bag in an <a href="http://www.breatheheavy.com/2012/02/uk-x-factor-judge-confirms-talks-with-britney/?utm_medium=twitter&utm_source=twitterfeed" target="_blank">interview</a> on U.K. talk show "Craig Doyle Live." He shared that Spears was indeed talking to producers about possibly joining the show.
</P><P>
</P><P>"I know he is talking to Britney. I know he's definitely talking to Britney to do the American show. Absolutely true and maybe Janet Jackson," he said.
</P><P>
</P><P>In the end, Cowell summed up the current spate of rumors on that conference call. "There's a load of speculation, some true, some not true. It's true to say that a lot more people have entered the frame this year. We were waiting to see who was going to contact us before we actually contacted people," he said last week. "We're in that place right now, which is a good place to be in. We will meet a number of people over the next few weeks, mainly to explain to them that this is a big commitment when you do a show like this because of the mentoring aspect."</p>

</P><P>The albums featured in the new series are the <a href="/music/artist/rolling_stones/artist.jhtml">Rolling Stones</a>' <i>Let It Bleed,</i> <a href="/music/artist/led_zeppelin/artist.jhtml">Led Zeppelin</a>'s <i>IV,</i> <a href="/music/artist/bowie_david/artist.jhtml">David Bowie</a>'s <i>The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars,</i> <a href="/music/artist/mike_oldfield/artist.jhtml">Mike Oldfield</a>'s <i>Tubular Bells,</i> <a href="/music/artist/clash/artist.jhtml">The Clash</a>'s <i>London Calling,</i> <a href="/music/artist/new_order/artist.jhtml">New Order</a>'s <i>Power, Corruption and Lies,</i> <a href="/music/artist/primal_scream/artist.jhtml">Primal Scream</a>'s <i>Screamadelica,</i> <a href="/music/artist/pink_floyd/artist.jhtml">Pink Floyd</a>'s <i>The Division Bell,</i> <a href="/music/artist/blur/artist.jhtml">Blur</a>'s <i>Parklife</i> and — the most recent album on to make the cut — <a href="/music/artist/coldplay/artist.jhtml">Coldplay</a>'s <i>A Rush of Blood to the Head.</i>
</P><P>
</P><P>Meant to honor "the most potent graphic images of modern times, many of which have provided a visual soundtrack to people's lives," the series is the end result of a lengthy research process by the Royal Mail, who looked through thousands of album covers by British artists before deciding on the final list. And, during a Wednesday night BBC Radio broadcast, it was revealed that the queen herself actually approved each design.
</P><P>
</P><P>Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page — who helped design the cover for <i>IV</i> — was on hand to celebrate the release of the stamps and recalled the mysterious nature of the album's iconic imagery.
</P><P>
</P><P>"Almost 40 years after the album came out, nobody knows the old man who featured on the cover, nor the artist who painted him," he said. "That sort of sums up what we wanted to achieve with the album cover, which has remained both anonymous and enigmatic at the same time."
</P><P>
</P><P>Of course, any great honor is befitting of an equally great contest, so, on the same day the stamps were made available to the general public, Coldplay decided to give one of their <i>Rush of Blood</i> stamps away. In a message on their official site, the band held a contest to send one lucky fan "a letter using a Coldplay stamp, postmarked with today's issue date."
</P><P>
</P><P>"We visited our local post office earlier today and bought some of the Coldplay stamps," the message read. "Very nice they are too."</p>

Lady Gaga Launches Born This Way Foundation
By Jocelyn Vena
<P><a href="/news/articles/1677562/lady-gaga-born-this-way-foundation.jhtml">Lady Gaga and her mother, Cynthia Germanotta</a>, took over Harvard University to launch their <a href="/news/articles/1673633/lady-gaga-born-this-way-foundation.jhtml"><i>Born This Way</i> Foundation</a> on Wednesday (February 29). In front of a crowd that included <a href="/news/articles/1679223/lady-gaga-oprah-winfrey-foundation.jhtml">Oprah Winfrey</a>, the New York natives kicked off their inspirational foundation, hoping to empower the youth of America.
</P><P>
</P><P>"I was recently with the great Gloria Steinem, who said that sometimes the only way you can get attention to a problem is to freak people out," <a href="http://act.mtv.com/posts/lady-gaga-launches-born-this-way-foundation/">Oprah said at the event</a>." 'Break the form,' she said. You have to stop playing the game in order to change the content. Lady Gaga, with her music and her message and her own story, is breaking the form, and she is changing consciousness. She says that she wasn't put on earth just to sing songs; her passion is to be that force for good. The <i>Born This Way</i> Foundation is in line with so many of my core beliefs."
</P><P>
</P><P>Gaga enthusiastically opened up about the foundation and what she hopes to do with it. "I just have one thing to say before we get started: We got Oprah! ... Thank you from all of us — from my entire team, from my mother, from the bottom of the hearts of so many people who believe in what we're doing today," she said, wearing a chocolate-brown gown, brown lace gloves, towering platforms and a sparkly fishnet hat.
</P><P>
</P><P>"I'm not here today to give you an answer. And I'm not here to tell you I can solve these problems [of bullying]. This is about transformative change in culture over a period of time. One of the most important things I wanted to share with all of you today, it's no secret I speak out against bullying. This is not an anti-bullying foundation; this is a youth-empowerment foundation," she continued. "This is about changing the climate of the school environment and not putting the power in the hands of the teachers or the government. It is about the bubble effect. I don't believe they have the answers; I believe that you do."
</P><P>
</P><P>In addition to her fans, Gaga said her biggest influence to start the foundation is her own Mother Monster. "My mother really inspires me, because she talked about giving back ever since I was very, very young," she said. "And the more that I got to know my fans, the more that I realized that not everybody has that support system at home."
</P><P>
</P><P>Her mother later enthused that despite the snow outside, "It is even more beautiful inside because we are launching the foundation. The youth that is listening: you are the leaders of our future."
</P><P>
</P><P>Gaga also revealed another aspect of the foundation: "There is a bus now called the Born Brave Bus. So the Born Brave Bus is essentially a bus that is going to travel and follow my tour bus around the country, and it will welcome anyone from any walk of life to come and hang out and talk about love, acceptance, kindness and so forth. And the best thing about it it's going to be fun. It's going to essentially be a tailgate. This is not about saying, 'I need help,' but if you do, you can come. If you want to help someone else, you can come and say 'Hey, what's up?' "
</P><P>
</P><P>At the end of the day, Gaga said the foundation "is all about saying the power is in your hands. There really is sort of a focus on the victim, but what I want to point out today is that the victim and the bully are on the same playing field. How do we say, 'You are both equal members of society'? How do we not save not just the victim, but also the bully? I want the <i>Born This Way</i> Foundation to empower the youth of the world."
</P><P>
</P><P>Gaga further explained that one of the core values is teaching her fans to empower themselves to be "brave."
</P><P>
</P><P>"This, again, is not focused on bullying, the bravery aspect; I want for young people to know they have the power," she said. "How can we inspire young people to know they have the power to be brave?"</p>

Whitney Houston And Michael Jackson's Deaths: Gone Too Soon
By Tomika L. Anderson
<P>Few people will forget where they were when they heard that the King of Pop, <a href="/news/articles/1614744/michael-jackson-dies-at-50.jhtml">Michael Jackson, had died</a> in June 2009. And now, the same can be said for 1980s and '90s <a href="/news/articles/1679029/whitney-houston-dead.jhtml">Queen of Pop Whitney Houston</a>.
</P><P>
</P><P></p><div class="player-placeholder right" title="Celebrities React To Whitney Houston's Passing" id="vid:733106.id:1679030" width="240" height="211"></div><p>
</P><P>
</P><P>The beloved, long-suffering singer died Saturday inside a Beverly Hills hotel room, hours before she was expected to attend a <a href="/news/articles/1679046/whitney-houston-dies-grammys-clive-davis.jhtml">pre-Grammy Awards party thrown by her longtime mentor Clive Davis</a>.
</P><P>
</P><P>And while the official cause of death is yet unknown — what's been speculated so far is that <a href="/news/articles/1679049/whitney-houston-dies-details.jhtml">Houston may have drowned</a> in the bathtub after taking prescription drugs, including Xanax — given her very public struggle with substance abuse, depression and anxiety over the past decade, it's hard not to conclude that some drug- or alcohol-related accident may have been to blame.
</P><P>
</P><P>It's much like, most recently, British singer Amy Winehouse and the late, great Michael Jackson before her, who died after taking a fatal cocktail of propofol and two other drugs. Also like Jackson, Houston's sudden death — at the age of 48 — has stopped the world in its tracks, an enormous, one-of-a-kind musical flame forever extinguished.
</P><P>
</P><P>Even Jackson's brother, Jermaine — who was first introduced to Houston years ago by Clive Davis at the same Beverly Hills Hilton where the singer passed away — could not help but draw the comparison. In an interview with CNN overnight, he paid tribute to the two fallen musical giants. "They shared a lot of success in the late '80s and they were great friends," he said. "I'm happy and honored to have been a part of their lives."
</P><P>
</P><P>And oh, what lives they led: Like Jackson — who died at just 50 years old, after years of struggling with personal demons — Houston, too, had an intensely profound and everlasting impact on the world of entertainment.
</P><P>
</P><P>Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson and countless other chart-topping entertainers have all name-checked her as their musical mentor, icon and inspiration: To date, she is one of the best-selling artists of all time, with more than 170 million albums, songs and videos sold.
</P><P>
</P><P>In her lifetime, Houston achieved what precious few of them have or ever will — stacking an astonishing 415 awards, including six Grammys, two Emmys, 22 American Music Awards, 30 <i>Billboard</i> Awards.
</P><P>
</P><P>Her voice, in its prime, was a national treasure.
</P><P>
</P><P>"X Factor" mastermind Simon Cowell may have summed it up the best: On "Piers Morgan Tonight," he said, "She was one of the greatest voices in our lifetime. Whitney was the number one singer that other singers want to emulate. People like that can't be manufactured. They've either got, it or they don't."
</P><P>
</P><P>He added, "You will always remember where you were and what you were doing when you heard the news."
</P><P>
</P><P>Like Michael before her, gone too soon.

'Mad Men' Premiere: 11 Burning Questions Answered
Aaron Stanton, Larisa Oleynik, Vincent Kartheiser and Alison Brie in "Mad Men" season five episode one
Photo: Michael Yarish/AMC
"Mad Men," don't ever leave us again, OK?
Or at least not for a few more seasons. After a 500-day-plus hiatus, AMC's hit show returned Sunday night with the epic two-hour season-five premiere, filled with civil-rights strife, relationships of the sure-to-blow-up-in-epically-entertaining-yet-profoundly-troubling-fashion variety, and innumerable tiny moments that make creator Matthew Weiner's "Mad Men" arguably the finest show on TV.
The debut also addressed a slew of lingering questions we'd amassed since the previous season came to a close in October 2010. Check out 11 of the most burning questions we'd been dying to have answered:
When Does Season Five Take Place?
How gangster would it be if Weiner opened season five with a slow push in toward Don Draper, his hair oddly gray, his deep wrinkles coming into view, his dapper postwar mojo caked in decades of booze, fatty foods and what-has-become-of-this-once-proud-country disillusionment? What if the year were 1986 and Don were a gut-bellied 60 years old? However unlikely such a crazy time jump was, an open question headed into the new season was exactly when in time Weiner would restart his story. After all, over a year passed between seasons one and two, while barely a month elapsed from the end of season three to the start of season four. Now we know the answer: Season five begins in the summer of 1966.
Did Don Really Marry Megan?
If you thought Don Draper would be content with an appropriately aged girlfriend, a quick trip to "Tomorrowland" (the title of the season-four finale) disabused viewers of such a notion. He ditched Dr. Faye Miller and took his young, seductive secretary Megan Calvet on a Disneyland trip with the kids. One sun-bleached California vacation later, Don had cruelly dumped Faye and asked Megan to marry him. Would it last? Could it last? Yes and yes. They're now married and living together (though, obviously, not so happily).
Is Faye Totally Out of the Picture?
Poor Faye. She was smart and sexy and Don's intellectual equal. Alas, she was also his age. As far as we can tell, Faye is totally dunzo as far as Don's life is concerned. Could she come creeping back into the picture? There's an argument to be made that she's too self-possessed to slink back into his arms. But when on "Mad Men" has a woman ever been able to resist the charms of Don Draper?
What Will Happen to Don When He Turns 40?
If you guessed "have a birthday party at his Manhattan loft thrown by his secretary-turned-wife during which she saucily sings a French love song to Don and his friends, leading the ad man to verbally bitch-slap his wife and his wife to strip down to her undies, clean their apartment and eventually make love to her hubby on the filthy carpet" — then congrats, you win!
Wither Bert Cooper?
The firm's elder statesman seemingly quit the firm at the end of season four, following Don's public statement that he will no longer produce ads for tobacco companies. "It's been a pleasure," Bert announced on his way out the door. Turns out he didn't quit, and as season five begins, Bert's still puttering around the office with not much at all to do.
Does Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce Survive?
Big Tobacco gave Don's ad agency the big kiss of death at the end of season four. They lost the Lucky Strike account, the very big deal keeping their fledging operation afloat. Could Sterling Cooper survive? Would Don have to go back to selling fur coats? Hardly. Thanks to the hard work of account exec Pete Campbell, Sterling Cooper continues to chug forward. They're still struggling, however, so expect the firm's finances to play a significant role this season.
Does Joan Have Her Baby?
A back-alley hump session with a former flame left office manager Joan pregnant last season. She contemplated having an abortion, even traveling to a clinic, before deciding to keep the baby and pretend it's actually her husband's child. Did she go through with the ruse? Does her hubby still have no idea he's been cuckolded? Yep, the guy hasn't a clue. And Joan, the once-and-future sex kitten, is now spending most of her time applying cream to her baby's diaper rash, rather than scheming and pouting in the offices of Sterling Cooper.
What's Up With Lane's Marriage?
The British finance whiz had a helluva rough time in season four. His wife left him, he went for a roll in the hay with a prostitute, then his father beat the piss out of him, sending him scurrying back across the pond to mend things with his wife. As season five begins, they're back together, but all is not well. After he picks up a stranger's wallet and calls up the guy's mistress, we witness Lane awkwardly attempting to engage in the '60s equivalent of phone sex. Nothing comes to pass, but we have a feeling Lane and his marriage are in for a ton of misery in the episodes to come.
Is Sally Draper Still a Terror?
Shockingly, if only temporarily, the answer to this burning question is no. Last season, heartbreakingly, Sally was a nightmare of a little girl as she struggled to adjust to a life lived under the shaky guidance of divorced parents. Who would have thought that as she approached her teenage years, she'd tamp down on the tantrums and start becoming a well-behaved adolescent girl? Two hours into the new season, that's exactly what Sally is. Of course, we still haven't seen her in the company of her mom, Betty. There's plenty of time for the terror to return.
Is Pete Campbell Still So Freaking Pete Campbell?
He fathered a child with his co-worker. He got married and cheated on his wife too many times to count. He's, generally speaking, a sniveling little turd viewers love to hate. But by the end of last season, Pete looked like he was turning things around, confessing his infidelities to his wife and turning into the agency's rainmaker. Maybe, just maybe, Pete was becoming — less annoyingly Pete. It's not going to last, it seems. Two hours into season five, he's already complaining that his wife sits around all day like a frumpy lump, and he has started taking later trains back from the city to the suburbs, because, well, take one guess why he's hanging around Manhattan after work. Pete Campbell, surprise surprise, will keep on being Pete Campbell.
Can Peggy Olsen Sustain a Happy, Healthy Relationship?
Remember beatnik journalist Abe Drexler, the guy copywriter Peggy hated and then loved and then kinda love-hated or hate-loved? Things appear to be going well between the two of them. She's cranky as ever, but he's supportive of her and her work life, even as he surely continues to believe her job is everything that's wrong with '60s America. How long they remain a joyful couple is anybody's guess (ours is: not very long). For now, though, let's just be happy for Peggy. After all, she's the true hero at the heart of "Mad Men."

Does Britney Spears Have 'The X Factor'?
By John Mitchell
<P>The news that <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/spears_britney/artist.jhtml">Britney Spears</a> is reportedly in final negotiations to <a href="/news/articles/1680782/britney-spears-x-factor-judge-offer.jhtml">join "The X Factor"</a> has set the <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com">MTV Newsroom</a> on fire. Opinion on whether the pop star is a good fit for the reality singing competition has been sharply divided, so we decided to take on the topic the way we're sure Simon Cowell did before making Spears a reported $10 million offer: a good, old-fashioned pros and cons list.
</P><P>
</P><P><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:698603/cp~vid%3D698603%26uri%3Dmgid%3Auma%3Avideo%3Amtv.com%3A698603" width="460" height="260" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullScreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed>
</P><P>
</P><P><big><b>Pro: She'll attract viewers</b></big><br>
</P><P>The <a href="/news/articles/1671220/x-factor-simon-cowell-ratings.jhtml">debut season of "The X Factor"</a> performed well below expectations. Its heavily hyped premiere pulled in 12.1 million total viewers and a meager 4.4/12 rating in the advertiser-coveted 18 to 49 demographic. That's about half of what the 2011 season of "American Idol" averaged ("Idol" is having its own ratings woes this season), and it didn't even win the night: Emmy-winning sitcom "Modern Family" drew 14.3 million viewers and a 6.0/15 for its season premiere.
</P><P>
</P><P>The poor ratings precipitated the overhaul that saw judges <a href="/news/articles/1678191/paula-abdul-exits-x-factor.jhtml">Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger</a> and host Steve Jones fired from the show.
</P><P>
</P><P>There's no question that Spears would bring viewers to "The X Factor." She enjoys a large and devout fanbase who will basically follow her just about anywhere. And beyond her own fans, Spears' celebrity would also likely draw attention from the general public, who will tune in simply to see how she does.
</P><P>
</P><P><big><b> Con: She's become nervous on camera </b></big><br>
</P><P>
</P><P>Though she can still wow a crowd live in concert, as evidenced by last year's successful tour behind her hit album <i>Femme Fatale,</i> Spears has become increasingly tentative during interviews. She rarely grants on-camera sit-downs, and when she does, she seems nervous and uncomfortable.
</P><P>
</P><P>To be a strong judge or mentor on a reality show, you have to be <i>very</i> comfortable on camera. Part of what made Jennifer Lopez click last season on "Idol" was that she came across as confident, direct and often empathetic. She even broke down in tears after <a href="/news/articles/1658584/americaon-idol-top-24.jhtml">sending home contestant Chris Medina</a>, whose fiancée suffered a severe brain injury in a car accident. The key word here is <i>after.</i> It's hard to imagine Spears being able to keep it together and deliver such difficult news in similar circumstances.
</P><P>It's worth noting that a high-drama situation arose on the first season of "The X Factor" -- one that left <a href="/news/articles/1675936/x-factor-rachel-crow-elimination-reaction.jhtml">contestant Rachel Crow sobbing</a> onstage and Scherzinger a wreck ... a wreck who received <a href="http://www.thefablife.com/2011-12-05/paula-abdul-and-nicole-scherzinger-receive-death-threats-after-the-x-factor-elimination/" target="_blank">death threats</a>. Producers should also consider whether it's wise to send Spears, who has dealt with emotional issues in the past, into a genre that thrives when the emotional stakes are high.
</P><P>
</P><P><big><b>Pro: she is a contemporary artist</b></big><br>
</P><P>One of the things we like most about <a href="/news/articles/1680496/the-voice-battle-rounds.jhtml">"The Voice"</a> is that its judges — Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green, Adam Levine and Blake Shelton — are all active artists. They are all still hitting the studio to make hit records, and that lends a great deal of credibility to their opinions when they critique a contestant's performance. We don't mean to slight Abdul or Scherzinger, but you could argue that a legacy singer who hasn't released an album in over 17 years and a performer who has had a difficult time getting her own solo singing career off the ground aren't the best judges of who does and does not have "The X Factor."
</P><P>
</P><P>On the other hand, Spears may be. <a href="http://newsroom.mtv.com/2011/03/29/britney-spears-femme-fatale-reviews/">Last year's <i>Femme Fatale</i></a> gave Spears three top-10 singles — the most of any of her seven albums — and earned some of the best reviews of her career. While it's true that she did not write or produce much of the record, she was most certainly involved in picking her collaborators, which actually could speak well of her ability to know talent when she sees it. Spears also smartly chose red-hot rapper Nicki Minaj to open on the North American leg of her tour.
</P><P>
</P><P>When it comes to the contemporary pop music scene, Spears knows what works.
</P><P>
</P><P><big><b>Con: She's not known for her singing</b></big><br>
</P><P>Unlike Aguilera, whose talent as a vocalist is indisputable, Spears is not known for her singing. By signing her to judge and mentor a singing competition, "X Factor" producers are setting themselves up for inevitable criticism. "Who is Britney Spears to judge a singing competition?" critics will scream (and they won't be wrong).
</P><P>
</P><P>When Aguilera critiques a performer's vocals, she speaks with authority — and her ear for singing proved to make her the most discerning judge on the "Voice" panel during the <a href="/news/articles/1679565/the-voice-christina-aguilera-jonathas-usher.jhtml">blind auditions</a>. Spears' judging style will likely be based on liking what's already there, but she's not going to have much insight on missed notes or pitch, which will cripple her ability to further mentor her team. How can she help them improve as vocalists when it's a truth universally acknowledged that she's not really a vocalist herself?
</P><P>

Fergie And Josh Duhamel Don't Want Kids 'This Second'
Fergie
Photo: MTV News
Now that Fergie has some extra time on her hands since the Black Eyed Peas announced they were on an indefinite hiatus, the singer is now focusing on the important things.
No, not working on a solo album or judging "The X Factor"; she's concentrating on spending time with her husband of three years, Josh Duhamel.
The "Glamorous" singer married the "Transformers" star back in 2009 after five years of dating, which, by Hollywood standards, is an impressively lengthy marriage. So what's their secret? Well, according to Fergie it's quite simple.
"We like each other, we like hanging out together, we have fun," Fergie told MTV News last week. "We have fun in the kitchen cooking and singing silly songs, not to give too much away, not going any further than that, but we have a good time together, and it's nice to get to have that quality time. We enjoy it."
Now that Fergie and Duhamel will be spending much more time together, many are wondering if they plan on starting a family. "It's not happening yet, I can tell you that definitely," Fergie said. "But we want to have a family, so that is in the cards, but it's just not this second."
In the meantime, Fergie is spending her downtime concentrating on her shoe line and fragrances and visiting her husband on set. "I got to go to his set for his movie that he's been filming, where he has the mohawk, 'Scenic Route,' " Fergie said. "So I'm very thankful for that film, for giving him a mohawk, because I'm quite enjoying it right now."
Fergie is no stranger to starring in movies of her own. The singer appeared in "Nine" and "Poseidon" and isn't ruling out the possibility of one day getting back on the big screen.
"I would love to," Fergie said of wanting to do another film. "It's going to be when I have the time and the energy and really have that commitment to something, but right now, I'm just enjoying the break. I'm open, I'm open for future things, I'm just planting my feet down. Eight years of being on the road, and now I've been off the road, what, five months? And I'm still traveling back and forth, New York, different places. I'm enjoying this time of just being home for that long of a period. But yeah, film definitely in the future, but like I said, no plans right now."
Do you think Fergie should do another movie? Let us know in the comments!
