Cate Blanchett Joins "The Hobbit"

Signing up for what?s sure to be a hit flick, Cate Blanchett will be reprising her role as Galadriel in Peter Jackson?s adaptation of J.R.R Tolkien?s ?The Hobbit.?
The casting comes as a bit of a surprise, however, as Galadriel doesn?t actually appear in Tolkein?s novel, but perhaps Jackson is looking to balance out the male/female ratio.
Blanchett?s role is that of the ethereal elf that she played in Peter?s ?Lord of the Rings? trilogy.
The adventure/fantasy film is rumored to be released in December 2012.
