Harry Potter may be headed to California.
The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will soon come to the Hollywood location of the Universal Studios theme park, according to sources cited by The Wall Street Journal. An announcement is reportedly expected from NBCUniversal within a week.
Plans to expand the Los Angeles theme park are said to hew closely to the version already open in Orlando, Florida. The massive success of that park prompted plans for a second site, and the sources said that if the Hollywood iteration proves similarly lucrative, international sites such as Japan and Singapore could have their own recreations of the J.K. Rowling world.
In the year since the Florida edition of the park has been open, attendance has risen by more than 1 million visitors, bringing in more than $300 million.
Before any deal is cemented, however, Rowling most approve plans for a new theme park, as she did for the Wizarding World in Florida. There's no word yet on what attractions may be included in the new park but the buzz is that the new park would be an expansion of the already existing Universal Studios Hollywood and feature attractions similar to those in Orlando.
At the Wizard World of Harry Potter in Florida, visitors can experience a range of attractions designed to recreate the magical books and movies. The park includes several themed restaurants, shops — including Ollivander's, where wands are available for purchase — and rides, all decorated to look like the Hogwarts castle and the outlying village of Hogsmeade.
